Creating a Periscope Account

Periscope is a great way to link out streams across various social media accounts very quickly through linking your various social media accounts through its service, allowing for an easy one touch alert system, and it is rather simple to get started, simply follow the steps below for the various platforms.

You Need:

  • One of the following:
    • Twitter
    • Phone Number
    • Facebook
    • Google Account

What is Periscope?

Simply put, Periscope enables you to go live via your mobile device anytime and anywhere. The app enables you to become your own on the go broadcasting station, streaming video and audio to any viewers who join your broadcast.

Periscope is an app that truly takes advantage of its mobile platform incorporating notifications and location as well as social sharing (on Twitter of course), live discussions and feedback.

Signing Up with Twitter

  1. Once you’ve opened the Periscope app, tap Create New Account.
  2. Once you're on the login screen tap Twitter.
  3. Log into your Twitter account.
    • If you have the Twitter app installed on your device, you can log in with the app.
    • If you don’t have the Twitter app installed, enter your email or phone and Twitter password.
    • If you have multiple Twitter accounts on your device, you will be prompted to choose which one you want to sign up with.
    • If you have two factor authentication setup for your Twitter account, you’ll need to complete this before your account can be created.
  4. Your Twitter profile picture and bio will migrate over to your Periscope account and we will build a list of suggested followers based on who you follow on Twitter. Remember, Periscope doesn't automatically import your Twitter followers.
  5. Enter your name.
  6. Choose a Periscope username (handle). This can be different from your current Twitter handle.
    • Your bio information transfers over from Twitter, but you can always edit it in your Periscope profile.

Signing Up with Your Phone Number

  1. Make sure you're using Periscope on the phone you want to sign up with
  2. Once you’ve opened the Periscope app, tap Create New Account.
  3. On the next screen, tap Phone Number.
  4. Enter the required info and tap Send Confirmation Code.
  5. You'll receive an SMS with your confirmation code. Enter that into the prompt.
    • If you have problems, tap Resend Confirmation Code.
  6. You'll be redirected back to the login screen. After a few seconds, you'll be redirected to create your profile. Remember, your username needs to be 2 or more characters.

When you log out of or quit Periscope, tap Log Back In and then select Phone Number. You'll be prompted to enter your phone number and send a confirmation code again. Please keep in mind that you're not going through the signup process again, this is just a different way to log into Periscope. It replaces the use of a username/password combination. We only use your phone number to log you into your account; it will not be used in any other way.

Signing Up with Facebook

  1. Once you’ve opened the Periscope app, tap Create New Account.
  2. On the next screen, tap Facebook.
  3. Log into your Facebook account.
    • If you have the Facebook app installed on your device, you can log in with the app.
    • If you don’t have the Facebook app installed, you’ll be redirected to the Facebook website to enter your email or phone and Facebook password.
    • If you have two factor authentication setup for your Facebook account, you’ll need to complete this before your account can be created.
  4. Enter your name.
  5. Choose a Periscope username (handle).

Signing Up with Google

  1. Once you’ve opened the Periscope app, tap Create New Account.
  2. On the next screen, tap Google.
  3. Enter your email or phone and tap Next.
  4. Enter your Google password and tap Next.
    • If you have two factor authentication setup for your Google account, you’ll need to complete this before your account can be created.
  5. Enter your name.
  6. Choose a Periscope username (handle).
